Studies of organizational change and leadership often include, if not begin with, the works of John Kotter, Ph. Kotter focuses almost exclusively on management practitioners, rather than scholars, and uses parables, stories, and case studies to teach the learnings he has gained through observing what successful managers actually do, rather than what they should do.
Leading Change: Why Transformation Efforts Fail by John P. Kotter From the May–June 1995 Issue Over the past decade, I have watched more than 100 companies try to remake themselves into significantly better competitors. They have included large organizations (Ford) and small ones. (1996) Leading Change. Harvard Business School Press, Boston. Has been cited by the following article: TITLE: Effective Leadership in the 21st Century: Bill Clinton and the New Way to Philanthropy. AUTHORS: Ezeakukwu E.
Read Kotter's Statement on Racial Equity. He identified and extracted the success factors and combined them into a methodology, the award-winning 8-Step Process for Leading Change. Help others see the need for change through a bold, aspirational opportunity statement that communicates the importance of acting immediately.

Built on the work of Kurt Lewin, the model sets out the 8 key steps of the changes process, arguing that neglecting any of the steps can be enough for the whole initiative to fail. The idea of a change being necessary for the success of the organisation can be very powerful. If you can create an environment where individuals are aware of an existing problem and can see a possible solution it is likely support for the change will rise. Generating conversation about what is happening and what direction the organisation could go in will help to achieve this. One way to kick-start this is to create a forum where issues and potential solutions are raised and discussed.
Over the past decade, I have watched more than companies try to remake themselves into significantly better competitors. They have included large organizations Ford and small ones Landmark Communications , companies based in the United States General Motors and elsewhere British Airways , corporations that were on their knees Eastern Airlines , and companies that were earning […]. Why do so many transformation efforts produce only middling results? One overarching reason is that leaders typically fail to acknowledge that large-scale change can take years. Moreover, a successful change process goes through a series of eight distinct stages. These stages should be worked through in sequence.

Purpose — The purpose of this paper is to gather current arguments and counterarguments in support of the classic change management model proposed by John P. Kotter in his book Leading Change. His work was based on his personal business and research experience, and did not reference any outside sources that has questioned its value. A current perspective on a limited tested model aims to be a focus of this paper. Findings — The review found support for most of the steps, although no formal studies were found covering the entire spectrum and structure of the model. Kotter's change management model appears to derive its popularity more from its direct and usable format than from any scientific consensus on the results.

Being change capable is the 'new normal' for today’s growth-minded organizations. The 'do more with less' strategies of the past are no longer effective in preparing organizations to meet the increasing challenges for growth, competitiveness and innovation required of them in this new era. Business change challenges including customer and market shifts, legal and regulatory requirements, strategic redirection, acquisitions, strategic partnerships, and cultural transformation are demanding that organizations effectively and efficiently manage change across multiple dimensions. To reach this level of change capability, organizations must adopt an integrated, balanced and customized approach to change management. Change management is addressed from the unique perspective of both its foundational concepts as well as practical application. Using an integrated, scalable and flexible framework, this book provides tools which can be readily customized and applied to initiatives across or within stages of the business change management lifecycle, from assessing the need for change, through planning the change initiative, designing a balanced change solution which integrates the people, process, and project management elements, through deploying and institutionalizing the change. Common risks associated with failed or stalled change initiatives are presented with best practices and key topics associated with change management are explored and illustrated through real-life case studies. Aimed at both the professionals within organizations and post graduate students and researchers within business strategy, organizational behaviour and change management disciplines, this book will provide a conceptual understanding of change management and a roadmap with a supporting toolbox for leading and implementing change that sticks.

Leadership of Change Volume 1: Change Management Fables Change Management Fables: Ten fables about the leadership paradox of implementing organisational change management versus delivering normal day-to-day operations. About this Book: Leaders go about their daily task of implementing the organisation’s strategy to deliver financial results. All of a sudden there is a change explosion that disrupts normal day-to-day operations. This is the leadership paradox: implementing change versus delivering day-to-day operations. Leaders then need to adjust their focus to implement the change, so that the organisation stays ahead of the competition and continues to deliver revenue to its shareholders. That means the change has to ensure a return on investment, full employee change adoption, and sustainable change. Leadership of Change® Volume 1 represents the author’s experiences throughout his career, it, provides ten practical stories of typical and consistent change management challenges that organisations and leaders experience when implementing organisation change, transitioning their organisation from the current ‘a’ state to the future ‘B’ state. Potential solutions are introduced which are developed in Volumes 2 and 3. This book includes illustrations as well as the a2B Change Management Framework® (a2BCMF®), the AUILM® Employee Change Adoption Model and the a2B5R® Employee Behaviour Change Model.
